It kills the vibe and costs you money. To fix this, we lean on shortwave infrared heaters. The big thing here is that they don’t bother trying to heat the air—which is a losing battle when the wind is howling across a deck. Instead, they beam heat directly onto your guests. Nobody wants their staff running around flipping breakers or hunting for switches in the dark. That’s why we hook these heaters up to a central hub using Zigbee or Wi-Fi. Here’s how it actually works: we set a temperature trigger. The moment the air hits a certain chill, the system kicks in. The lamps hit full power in a heartbeat. Your patio stays cozy, and your team can actually focus on the customers instead of playing electrician.
The Nitty-Gritty Stuff
Since these live outdoors, we use waterproof housings. Rain and electricity don’t mix, so we make sure these are built to take a beating from the elements. We usually go with quartz or carbon fiber elements because they’re instant. No waiting around for them to “warm up.” But a word of warning: watch your power. These things are hungry. If you line up ten 2kW heaters, you’re pulling 20kW. That’s a lot of juice. The Catch
Automation is great, but tech fails. Routers crash. Wi-Fi drops. If you rely entirely on an app, you might find yourself with a freezing patio and a dead router at 11 PM on a Saturday. To stop that from happening, we always put in a manual override switch. It’s a simple “old school” backup. You get the best of both worlds: the ease of remote energy management most of the time, and a physical switch for when the internet decides to quit on you.
