
No More Shivering in the Bathroom
We’ve all been there. You step out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom, and suddenly that “relaxing” experience is ruined because you’re shivering while trying to dry off. That’s the “cold start” problem. Most heaters try to warm up the air in the room, which takes forever—especially if you have high ceilings or a drafty window. We do things differently. We use shortwave infrared (IR) lamps. Instead of fighting the air, these lamps send heat straight to your skin and the surfaces around you. You don’t wait for the room to warm up. You just feel the heat. Immediately.
How it actually works
Inside the lamp, there’s a tungsten filament tucked into a high-purity quartz tube. The second you flip the switch, that filament gets screaming hot. It sends out radiation that travels at the speed of light. It doesn’t get “lost” in the air or drift toward the ceiling. It goes exactly where it’s pointed. This is the only way to get a concentrated blast of warmth without wasting a ton of electricity trying to heat a giant, empty room.
The nuts and bolts
Bathrooms are humid, so we use sealed quartz tubes. Quartz can handle the heat and lets those IR waves pass through without blocking them. Depending on how much heat you want, we use heavy-duty connectors (like the R7s) so you don’t have to worry about electrical arcs or loose connections when the power kicks in. One thing to keep in mind: wattage matters. A 1000W+ lamp feels like a luxury spa, but it’s a heavy lift for your electrical system. Just make sure your wiring and breakers can handle the load before you go for the high-power option.
Getting it installed
These are designed to be easy, drop-in replacements for those old-school heat lamps. They don’t take up much space, but they pack a punch. Just remember that IR heat is directional. If something blocks the lamp, the heat stops. That’s why we suggest mounting them overhead. You get the widest coverage, and it keeps the hot quartz tube safely out of reach.
