Why we’re ditching those old bathroom heat lamps for IP65 infrared heaters
Let’s be honest: those old-school bathroom heat lamps are kind of a gamble. They use basic bulbs that aren’t really meant to live in a steam room. Water sneaks into the housing, things short out, or the bulbs just burn out way too fast. It’s frustrating. That’s why we’ve been moving toward IP65-rated infrared heaters. They actually handle the moisture. What does “IP65” actually mean for you? Basically, it means the unit is tight. Dust can’t get in, and water splashes—even from a few different angles—won’t penetrate the guts of the machine. In a bathroom, you’ve got steam and direct splashes happening all the time. To stop that from ruining the electronics, we use tempered glass and high-temp silicone gaskets. It keeps the water out and the power flowing. The “Instant” Factor Here is the best part. Traditional heaters try to warm up all the air in the room. That takes forever. Infrared is different. It uses shortwave radiation that goes straight to your skin and the surfaces around you. You don’t have to wait for the room to heat up; you feel the warmth the second you flip the switch. It’s immediate. The Engineering Struggle Getting that much heat into a small box isn’t easy. We use quartz or halogen elements because they pack a punch, but they get hot. The tricky part is making sure the IP65 seal doesn’t actually trap too much heat inside and fry the electronics. We solved this by using heat-resistant alloys for the chassis. It stops the metal from warping or bending after months of heating up and cooling down. The Trade-off There is one catch. With the old lamps, you could just swap out a bulb when it popped. Because these units are sealed tight to keep you safe from shocks, you can’t just reach in and change a part. If the element goes, you usually replace the whole module. It sounds like a downside, but look at it this way: you’re trading a “cheap and replaceable” bulb for something that’s actually engineered to last. You get a heater that won’t quit on you the first time you take a steaming hot shower.
